the third poetic reminder. it’s not about them anyway.

Some people come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.  When you know which one it is, you know exactly what to do.

Delivered to me with love + gentleness a few months before my world turned upside down and inside out, this poem was given to me by a friend who showed up in my life for a ‘reason’.

These friendships can be the most challenging to let go of.  It almost feels as though they are a godsend, and have come to assist you through difficult times, provide support + guidance, or to help you physically/emotionally/spiritually…and they have!

But then, without warning + usually at the most inconvenient time, this relationship will come to an end.  Maybe they walk away + you never hear from them again.  Maybe they betray you + force you to face your truth.  Or maybe they pass away.  Either way, we must acknowledge that our prayer as been answered, their work has been done, and it’s time to let go + move on.

The Final Analysis

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone may destroy overnight;
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you have got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is all between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.
