After eight years and over three thousand classes, I was done teaching Group Fitness. So done that I declared I was never going to teach again. It was time to venture into something new, something challenging, something outside my comfort zone.
To make sure I committed wholeheartedly to immersing myself in something new, I burnt the bridge behind me so there was no {easy} way for me to go back. This looked like giving away all of my music {back then it was all on CD’s}, choreography notes, training manuals/DVD’s and any branded training gear I owned. Whatever I didn’t give away, I threw into the bonfire.
This approach might not be for everyone, but it sure is powerful and definitely set me on a new path that’s been integral to the soul work I do today.
It was only nine months before I started teaching again. Apparently, when one of your soul essences is a Teacher, it’s almost impossible not to teach. But instead of returning to the familiar world of fitness, I leaned into the foreign world of yoga. It was here I learnt a whole new way of teaching that relied less on big motivation and high energy, and more on deep presence and subtle energies.
In this episode, I share how one dance class reminded me what it truly meant to be free in my body and how turning down an invitation to teach a Yoga Rave class was the beginning of teaching my own Sacred Dance Parties.
